The WordPress Themes Free site utilizes the Wordpress The Sparkling Index (or the WTSI). The WTSI uses a formula to search the internet and find the most popular themes of the day. This site also has a feature that allows users to search through uploaded themes by a variety of criteria. You can even upload your own free theme if you would like to share it with others!
Redspectra is a great, basic and easy to look at theme. It is a two column, fixed width them with a basic red, white and black color scheme. The Header image is large and mostly read, with white and lighter red highlights. The nice part about this WordPress theme is that it keeps everything neatly organized. Each post is in its own container, and each part of the blogroll has its own container as well. This is great because it breaks up each nicely and keeps one post from running into the next. It also helps readers tell where one part of the sidebar ends and another begins.
The overall color scheme is nice and basic. Readers will easily be able to identify which parts of the site that they are supposed to pay attention to. Basic themes are nice, especially for beginning Bloggers. It helps make sure that visitors’ attention is focused on the content.
A lot of beginning Bloggers want themes that are complicated and involve lots of widgets and plug-ins. Just copy the AdSense code from your Adsense login and paste it appropriately wherever mentioned in your dashboard and that’s all! You’re then ready to show off your blog with AdSense ads in it, and hopefully earn some cash in the process. You can use 160 x 160 Skyscraper, 468 x 60 half banner, which you can place just above the comments section, and a 300 x 250 medium rectangle on a single post. Of course, it’s advised that you constantly tweak the placement of the ads, as different positions can greatly affect your CTR.

Newsflash is a rather sleek theme designed for people who want big font sizes. Well, not really big, but big enough to be read and bigger than the usual font size 12. This theme is just a simple one but I must say that being simple doesn’t mean being “boring”. This 2-column theme is packed with great features like a large enough sidebar to place your medium rectangle ads and video ads.
The header looks neat with the blog title written in bold to emphasize it. Just above the header is the navigation bar. The nav bar items look like tabs which add to the theme’s sleekness. To the right of the nav bar is the search field where visitors can enter their specific search terms and find posts on the blog. In my opinion, the search field should be on the top part of the page simply because people don’t scroll down to look for it! This is just one advantage of using the Newsflash theme.
The post area, for me, is the most interesting part of this theme. The title is big enough to be noticed by the readers so I think having a couple of ads in between posts wouldn’t hurt. The post text is also kinda large, which helps in giving the readers an enjoyable time in your blog. Instead of trying so hard to read the posts, they can just think about the article.
I recommend this theme to people who want to publish a personal blog yet want to earn some money through serving some advertisements. Because of the placement of the sidebar, I think this theme can give a rather high clickthrough rate (CTR) for your ads, which generates more revenue for you!

Firming Wordpress Theme
There are many themes out there which look so complicated that bloggers don’t want to use them anymore. is one of the themes that have a plain yet cool look. Its green white color scheme soothes the eyes and its simple style attracts the attention of the readers.
The header of Firming stands out; the blog’s title is clearly seen and the tagline can easily be read without zooming the page. Unlike other themes, Firming has a really neat navigation bar which can be found on top of the header to ensure that the visitors or readers will not have a difficult time in browsing your blog.
The very first thing that you will see in the sidebar is the search bar. In my opinion, this is a great thing because most people don’t scroll down to look for the search field. Well, I mean, who would? If you want to find something, you don’t search for the searching tool! Since the search field is up there, the people only have to type in the keywords and press enter. No more frustrating scrolling. Just below the search bar are the sidebar items already. You can see that the sidebar items’ titles are very readable and are placed on a nice (darker) green background which adds to the simple-yet-cool effect of the theme. The links are easy to read as well, and the color suits the theme very much. For those who want to monetize their blogs, I think you can put skyscrapers or 125×125 buttons in the sidebar area.
Going to the post area, I can say that it is very neat and tidy. The post titles and the posts have very good line spacing – you won’t get dizzy when reading the text, and that’s one thing I love about this theme. Some themes just “stuff” the text altogether making it hard to read. But with Firming, the letters and texts just have enough distance to make the reader feel comfortable.
This theme is highly recommended for people who want a simple, yet cool design.
